So in 1982 I believe it was when Duran Duran recorded Rio and then they went to film three videos in Sri Lanka: the famous Hungry like the Wolf video and then two unknown other ones, Save a Prayer and Lonely in your Nightmare. I am unsure if all these three videos have a link together. They way the Save a Prayer and Lonely in your Nightmare are connected in the way it looks like, with the same model. I honestly wish they could have a made a movie out of this one too. I will explain why more later on in the entry.
Duran Duran and their management hired Russell Mulcahy an upcoming director at the time. The band have mentioned it various times in documentaries and also you can find it on their official website and also Wikipedia. (Feel free at anytime to correct me if I am wrong about anything. I don't believe everything you read in this blog, because it's either right or wrong. In many ways.) But anyways, this director was looking in becoming a movie director, which he eventually did. Feel free to look at his resume here. I wouldn't have mind it if he actually would have offered up the idea to everyone to make a movie out of these three videos. Would've been cool to have these three music videos that helped Duran Duran lunch themselves on to MTV and the music video history timeline with Michael Jackson as well. Girls on Film was the actual video that got MTV's attention. But enough with that now, we're saving that for another day.
The whole Rio album should have been a big movie. But I am leaving out the Rio video right now because I am just decaite this post to pretty much these three Sri Lanka videos.
But moving on to the main attraction. I will post the three videos below and tell you a little bit of my opinions of the video and what is going on. Got inspired last night to do this now... Go more in details about things instead of just giving you the short of little childish comments about things. More opinions and expressing them like I should!
Hungry Like The Wolf
Do do do do video link: Hereee
I like how this video has a Indiana Jones feel to it! I am not a big fan of the snake sitting on the table right by Simon le Bon. I don't know how Simon did it... I would be just shaking the whole time. That snake! Okay, fear of the snake out of the way here, back to the main topic. Pretty much it's Simon going after a women that got his attention and since he saw her, he wants to be with her. While the others try to find him. The part I love is when John Taylor and Roger Taylor are driving around in the jeep. That always sticks out to me. There is something about this video I just love. I can't tell you what it is... It's just per fun to watch and was was so much fun to make too. So last night I was going through this blog where this lady was doing fun little play by plays about their music videos (feel free to read it here, then if you want to read just about Hungry Like The Wolf here) and she mentions when it's night time, it seems like John, Roger and Nick Rhodes are at this little party or it was the night before Simon goes off to find this girl. But as you watch the video you see John and Roger make out with the girl that Simon is going after. Woah! I wonder if this girl Simon is on the hunt for is the other girl you will find in the next two videos. I could be wrong because she doesn't look like the other model.
Lonely In Your Nightmare
Rare until 2009 remaster video.
This was all flimed in Sri Lanka. Pretty much you see the band at the an outdoor party at night. Simon is hanging around the house while I am assuming in this video his girlfriend (played by a model) is sleeping in the other room. So pretty much it seems like their going to get married possibly when you find her standing across the water in a temple doorway in a white dress. So call me crazy this song might be about getting married or just general going through a rough patch about the wedding.
Second video. Pretty much I think this was the main
video that was released. Video link.
In this video we find ourselves jumping back in fourth in memories with Simon. He looks like he is in a house in London where it's been somewhat trashed and just left like that for a good amount of time, it looks like six months with all the dust. So pretty much it starts with him looking a photos of his I believe ex-girlfriend and the blog I told you about (go up to the Hungry Like A Wolf section where I give you a link to her blog) thinks that they where supposed to get married. This is where it gets a little odd in my mind that in Hungry Like A Wolf you see him going after another completely different women then this girl that he is having memories about in this video. This is why in my opinion why they should have made a full length movie around the album Rio. But the blogger also mentions that it looks like the four other guys know her, when they spot her in different places in London then she disappears when they all see her. Well mainly Andy Taylor doesn't see her, he just think Roger might be loosing his mind a little bit there pointing at something or someone that isn't there. I agree with the blogger, we should have gotten more of a back story on this.
Save A Prayer
I love the opening of this video! All the band members look like their relaxed just hanging out on the beach through out the video. John looks like he's enjoying playing the guitar on the beach and then on the boat for the locals. What the blogger says this video is pretty much the break up video. I would say it's more of a boy loses girl then get the girl back by the end of the movie kind of video. A three minute chick flick in my opinion. I love seeing the band sitting on elephants. There is a funny story in a believe a Biography documentary about the band or in Andy's book or in both! I remember coming cross it twice somewhere. But there is a little story about making this video where Roger was on an elephant and they where playing this mating call on the sound system they had and before you know it off goes the elephant and Roger for a journey to find the mate! I don't know how long it took them to track down poor Roger for the shoot. I think Roger should write a book just like Andy and John did. That's one of the things I want to hear the whole story about along with a few other things, that I won't mention here.
Before I sign off, I am going to let you all know all the Vevo videos belong to EMI. Not mind. No copyright laws I don't want to break. But anyways, until next week. Peace.
